Ancient civilizations have understood that there is a basic life force energy that flows through the body supporting optimal health and wellness.  The Chinese identified this energy as Chi, the Indians call it Prana and the Japanese call it Ki.  Our culture has separated science from philosophy and thus separated body, mind and spirit.

Reiki is a precise method for connecting this universal energy with the body’s innate powers of healing.  This hands on healing art was rediscovered in the mid 1800’s by Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk educator.  It has shown to be a powerful adjunct to conventional therapeutic modalities.  It assists the body in its innate ability to maintain homeostasis on the physical, mental, and emotional levels.

Reiki is easy for practitioners to incorporate because its practice does not require complicated techniques, allowing it to easily be incorporated into a variety of specialties.  It is being used by physicians, nurses, psychologists, psychotherapists, ministers, priests, nuns, Physical and Occupational Therapists.

At Hands on Physical Therapy and Advanced Massage Therapy, Reiki can easily be integrated with Myofascial Release (MFR).  I see Reiki as the tool that opens the door and MFR as the work horse that generates the release and change in often long-held and resistant patterns.

Fascia and this life force energy share the common element of running continuously through the body from head to toe without interruption,  unless of course there is a restriction in the body that is blocking that flow.  Reiki can act as an amplifier, helping to open the physical and energetic blocks in the system that make us more susceptible to disease and pain patterns.

Healing is a very individual process.  Not only between individuals but also within each individual.  Our bodies are constantly changing and responding to internal and external stressors.  The food that we eat, the work that we do, life circumstances, our relationships, all interact and become components that make up our internal environment.  Being open to trying different healing modalities at different times, gives us the best opportunity to experience new and different options for pain relief, relaxation and increasing our overall wellness.

Reiki and Myofascial Release integrate very well together and can offer you a deeper and more powerful healing experience.
