High-Intensity Laser Treatment (HILT)

High-Intensity Laser Treatment (HILT) is a class IV laser that delivers light as the therapeutic modality for treatment of pain and tissue healing.

  • HILT is a pain-free form of light that penetrates deeply into the tissue causing a photobiomodulation of the cells, specifically the mitochondria, to encourage oxygen absorption of the cells while releasing bi-products of inflammation.
  • Photobiomodulation is to human and animal cells as photosynthesis is to a plant cell. It assists in increasing oxygenation and ATP production which is the fuel with which the cell functions.
  • It is an FDA approved therapeutic treatment once reserved for elite athletes and is now available to the public.
  • The higher light wavelengths at 810 to 1300 nanometers helps the light penetrate soft tissue, muscle, and bone
  • HILT successfully treats acute, chronic and neuropathic pain as well as speeds up regeneration of soft tissue trauma. It also promotes wound healing
  • The client will feel a nice warm sensation with the treatment. If the on-contact roller balls are used, massage and soft tissue work is performed with the laser application.
  • There are NO KNOWN side effects from the use of laser when applied by a well qualified and trained person.
What to expect during treatment?:

Both the client and the therapist will put on protective eye wear to avoid accidental contact with the laser beam. The client will be comfortably positioned with the area of the body exposed as the light cannot effectively penetrate fabric. All treatments occur in a private room with the door closed. If modesty is needed, the patient will be appropriately draped. Because our LightForcelaser can deliver up to 25 Watts of power, the time required for treatment will be relatively short at around 4-8 minutes for something the size of the low back or hip and as short as 20-60seconds on a finger or the TMJ. Treatment parameters are dependent of the size of the treatment area, the amount of power needed to penetrate the tissue and how acute or chronic the condition is. The client will feel the warmth of the laser and if the on-contact roller ball is used, they will feel the pressure of the ball rolling over the skin. Constant communication between the client and therapist is conducted to be certain of avoiding a burning sensation. One can expect some slight change after even one treatment in pain complaints or range of motion of the body part. On average, there is about a 20% improvement after the 1sttreatment and then successive treatments expand the benefits.

How many treatments will I need?

Acute injuries can often be cleared up in 3-6 treatments if caught early. Chronic problems that have been around for several months to years take 8-12 treatments. Recovery is dependent upon what the client does between sessions that either support the healing process or cause a re-injury. Laser treatments are cumulative meaning one can expect to improve for hours to days after the treatment. As more treatments are added, better results can be expected. Extremely chronic conditions may take more treatments over a longer period of time.

Conditions treated with HILT warm laser:
      • Hip, knee, ankle pain
      • Plantar fasciitis pain
      • Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain
      • Low back pain
      • Headaches
      • Neuralgia
      • Bursitis
      • TMJ pain
      • Limited range of motion
      • Adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder
      • Wound healing
      • Softening of the scar tissue
      • Assists in post surgical healing
      • Many more
What are the Benefits of HILT?
      • Molecular absorption of light along a specific wavelength causes a photochemical response and changes the absorption capability of the mitochondria and cell walls to produce energy and release toxins.
      • Pain relief –
o increases oxygenation of the mitochondria which increases production of the needed energy source, ATP.
o Can help the body produce and release the natural pain killers known as endorphins and enkephalins.
o Alters the chronic pain cycle by changing or suppressing the nerve signals that transmit pain messages to the brain
      • Improves healing and tissue repair after trauma –
o Increases blood flow which is carrying oxygen and other vital nutrients
o Enhances cell growth of bone, cartilage, muscle, tendons, and other tissues of the body by stimulating DNA and RNA healing factors
o Helps speed up the removal of immune system toxins that can create inflammation such as prostaglandin-e. This will decrease swelling.
      • Softens scar tissue by encouraging collagen alignment in an organized pattern as opposed to a chaotic pattern often seen with keloids or old scars.
      • Stimulates healthy nerve function by acting on the mitochondria rich nerve fibers to improve production of oxygen and excretion of toxins in the cells.
      • HILT has NO KNOWN negative side effects when used appropriately by someone well trained to apply it.

"Hands On Austin is simply amazing! I injured my neck a week ago playing soccer. Three herniated discs, and more pain than I’ve ever experienced before in my neck. With a single visit to my Hands On LMT Patricia, the difference was immediately noticeable. She was able to loosen up my neck muscles in just the right way to allow everything to reset itself over the next few days. 5 days later everything is back in place and the pain is gone. I was blown away that we were able to achieve such great results after one session. Even better, Patricia took the time to share some of her knowledge and insights with me to explain other techniques I can use to care for my body. Hands On has earned a happy customer for life! Thanks so much for what you do!"

"How do these folks do what they do?! It is not magic, it is science administered by angels. For 3 plus years I have received the benefits of their greatness. One chronic SI Joint problem that had plagued me for most of my life has not visited me now for all of those 3 years. I am a very active yoga practitioner, an old long distance runner, cyclist, outdoor kind of guy that thinks he knows what is right about my body mechanics. A neck injury from a yoga practice caused my Medical Doctor to refer me to them. From absolutely no movement in my neck, significant pain with major impact to my work and my sleep, in a short amount of time, the skilled providers at Hands On solved the problems with my neck and most importantly they taught me what to do to prevent it from happening again...”

"Hands On has made a huge difference in my life over the last 6 years. My initial treatment was for severe back and leg pain. Subsequently over the years I have experienced problems caused from age and a car accident. The therapists were able to help with and in some cases alleviate problems where I thought my only recourse was surgery. This is an organization that I have and will continue to recommend time and time again. Everyone from the therapists to the office staff are professional, personable. They all really care and invest themselves in helping find a solution to your needs.”

"As I grow older, my body does too! I have shoulder, back and neck issues, as well as emphysema. I used to hurt day and night, couldn’t sleep and was miserable. My specialist recommended Hands On and after my first visit I felt better. The whole idea of facial release, the benefits of improved posture, all the things I’m learning about my body and how to feel really well . . . amazing. Everyone at Hands On is professional, kind, helpful, supportive and concerned for my well-being. I wish I had discovered them when I was a child!”

"I came to HOPT with a twisted body and pelvic rotations, up slips, and pain throughout my body. I quickly found that my body responded positively to myofascial release therapy, and all the therapists at HOPT are truly amazing. It's not an over night fix, but it can be a permanent one. I now have a new pain free body and thus a new life. I would give HOPT 10 stars on a 5 star scale.”

      - P.T., Myofascial Release Therapy

"After my doctor did a PRP procedure on my knee, he recommended I go to "Hands On" Therapy. I was not familiar with the Myofascial Release technique. After speaking with a couple patients who gave raving reports of their progress, I felt I was at the right place. The therapist explained the Myofascial Release technique to me and enteredmy case history into the computer- Every time I have an appointment I've been impressed that each therapist has already reviewed my case. She sees my progress from their very thorough records. After gentle hands-on treatments to release fascial restrictions and doing the exercises they prescribed for me, my knee area is stronger and the pain level has dramatically decreased. I'm very pleased with my progress. The office staff is also very efficient. Every appointment I've had has been on time, almost to the minute. Now that's amazing! A thank you to all at "Hands On" Therapy,”
