Exactly 6 years, 8 months and 17 days ago, I began my life changing journey here at Hands On. So often I am asked, “How did you get into this line of work? “Followed up with, “You seem so young to be doing what you’re doing.” There is no doubt that I have been privileged through my exposure to Myofascial Release. You see, I began practicing Myofascial Release ( or MFR for short ) at a younger age than what is typical. Before I joined the crew at Advanced Massage Therapy, I was an Myofascial Release patient. This may very well be one of the biggest reasons I have chosen to become a Myofascial Release Massage Therapist.
Almost a year before I ever attended my first Myofascial Release seminar, I had been receiving regular myofascial treatments through Hands On/Advanced Massage Therapy, along with attending school to become a Licensed Massage Therapist. The contrast between the traditional methods I was learning in school and the more advanced manual techniques that were available was blatantly obvious when the therapists at Hands On placed their hands on me. ( No pun intended :oD ) As time and my treatments went on, I received some of the most profound healing. Healing that took me deeper into myself than I ever knew was possible; that has helped me to overcome holding patterns, physically, mentally and emotionally that were limiting my life and ultimately changed me forever. All the while still attending massage school and receiving regular massages based upon traditional methods that didn’t seem to compare. Now, before I begin to sound too partial, it’s since been almost 7years and I have since experienced a variety of manual therapies from Acupuncture to Chiropractic to hot stone therapy to energy healing of many various sorts and to many forms of massage therapy. All of which I have benefitted from on some level but I strongly feel that had I not received and been exposed to Myofascial Release, none of these would have been near as effective. Myofascial Release has taught me how to tune in to my body, has given me an awareness I may never have gotten any other way and has taught me to receive. So, when I am asked why and how I came to do this incredible work, I always hear something Jody said to me after attending one of the seminars offered at Hands On, “You’re never going to be able to NOT do Myofascial Release, are you? “To this day, I don’t know what Jody Hendryx saw in me after that seminar but I surely felt it. Every day I am blessed to be able to explore and play in the ever changing fascia. Every day I have the opportunity to help change someone‚Äôs life and gift back what was given to me. Every day I help provide pain relief to those that in some cases don’t remember what it’s like to not live in pain. Myofascial Release to me has a depth that is incomparable to anything I have experienced so far. There is such an expansive variety of techniques used to treat each individual case that is such a significant part of what makes it so effective in alleviating pain and restoring function. It is more than a form of therapy, for me it’s become a beautiful way of living.
